Twitch Video Player Controls Now in HTML 5

Twitch Video Player Controls Now in HTML 5, making Twitch's move to HTML almost half way complete. Earlier this month Twitch's Flash based chat system was replaced with their HTML 5 version, which offered faster loading times and lower CPU utilization, which is very helpful when watching crowded streams.

When Twitch moves fully to HTML 5 the site will continue to run faster and using less system resources, again making viewing Twitch steams a much easier process.

As you may have already heard, we’re beginning to roll out a redesign of our video player on web.

Today’s redesign moves half of the video player – specifically the controls – from Flash to HTML5 and Javascript. The video itself is still in Flash underneath the controls. However, this is an important step to releasing the much-anticipated full HTML5 player.

You’ll begin to see the new player on channel pages first. As previously mentioned, this is a gradual roll out. If you are not part of our initial pool of users, please be patient as we release the redesigned player at a steady pace.

Keep an eye out for the new player controls, and stay tuned for more HTML5 updates.
