Unreal Engine 4.8 is Out Today and has "Comprehensive" VR Support

Unreal Engine 4.8 has been released today and will feature "Comprehensive" VR Support, including support for Valve's Vive headset, SteamVR , support for Oculus' most recent 0.6 SDK and an SDK to work with Gear VR's mobile headset.

The Unreal Engine 4 already supports Sony's Project Morpheus head mounted display (HMD), making the Unreal Engine one of the most VR friendly engines available today.

The Unreal engine is not the only engine which has had a VR related update this week, with the Unity 5.1 now adding native support for the Oculus Rift, with plans for Microsoft's Hololens and Gear VR support in the future.

VR will hit the consumer market within the next year, when games and headsets will be hitting store shelves. The software side of things also seems to be improving on a day-to-day basis, meaning that VR will likely be a simple plug and play experience before long.
