Valve's Vive will be available in "limited quantity" this year

In the race to VR many believe that the first product to make it onto the mainstream market is going to have a major advantage when it comes to market share.

Valve has always said that their Vive VR headset would be coming in holiday 2015, meaning that they would be beating even the Oculus Rift to market, though it isn't quite as clear cut as that. Valve has just now announced that the HTC Vive headset will only have a "limited quantity" available and that HTC would  "offer the first commercial Vive units via a limited quantity of community and developer systems, with larger quantities shipping in calendar Q1 2016".

Valve's VR Headset has been Revealed

This means that the HTC Vive will be making it to market in the same quarter as its main competitor the Oculus Rift, which means that neither of the two big VR headsets will have much of a competitive advantage when it come to release date.

It is a shame that the HTV Vive headtset will not make it to market in time for Christmas, but hopefully this will mean that there will be more games which are VR ready when the headset eventually launches.
