World of Warcraft receives its pre-expansion update

World of Warcraft has received its pre-expansion update today for the upcoming Legion expansion, adding 3 new higher graphical settings beyond Ultra and increased draw distances.

This update also increases the level cap to 110, increases the maximum amount of gold that you or your guild bank can hold and increases the maximum number of characters in a realm to 12. You can read the full change-list here.

World of Warcraft: Legion will feature a much larger draw distance

Pictured above is a comparison between the draw distances in Legion when compared to Warlords of Draenor, with the upcoming Legion expansion offering over 2x the draw distance in almost all cases. The increased draw distances will only be available in the 64-bit version of the game due to memory limitations.

In Warlords, the highest-end hardware that can reliably run the Ultra setting manages to push the fully fogged distance to about 1,300 “game units” (yards). After that point, all objects would be drawn filled in with the fog color until the clipping distance. The same setting in Legion will draw out to 2,600 game units. Those who currently play at High settings in Warlords and see out to 1,000 units will see 2,200 units in Legion. Graphics Level 10 is currently set at 3,500 game units, which you can see in that last screenshot. It’s important to note that due to memory considerations, all of these new draw distances are only available in the 64-bit client.

Below you can see the PC system requirements for World of Warcraft's Legion Expansion, which will release on August 30th.

I've played wow through 3 years of college, ended up quitting when I had to make the choice to work and earn a living or play wow, looking back on it probably made good choice but damn I loved that game, hc raiding, pvp, 25/40 people in a single group to take down a boss is just a unique experience, competing for rank1's at your class during progression.

I want to go back now... but I know its dead at this point:/Quote

holy crap those stats are depressing, no wonder blizz stopped publishing stats on that. Used to play on kazzak, CoA and azuremyst, atm that's less than 25k people...

I jumped online for a free week few months ago, CoA was just dead, only about 20 people in trade chat, 2 in old guild...

I truly wish for wow2 to come out but that's what draenor was meant to be or a lot of people and blizz just failed to deliverQuote
