Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has stated that he would like to see Xbox 360 backwards compatibility on the PC platform as well as on the Xbox One while speaking to Gizmodo during the Brasil Game Show.

I would love to have the ability to play Xbox 360 on PC at some point too, so have different things we have to think when we plan these things.

The Xbox division of Microsoft has often stated that  they would love to offer more support for us PC gamers, but this often is not the case. Recently it was announced that Gear of War: Ultimate Edition would be coming to PC, but as of yet we are yet to hear of it’s release date and next week PC users will be finally able to buy a wireless adapter for the Xbox One’s controller, almost two years after the console/controller launched.

What I will say here is that the likelihood of Xbox backward compatibility coming to the PC is highly unlikely, though if they could manage it on the Xbox One’s hardware it seems like it would almost certainly be possible on a high end PC if Microsoft were willing to dedicate the resources to it.

Phil Spencer did say that other things were in the pilepine for Xbox Backward compatibility, including support for some original Xbox titles, though some work still needs to be done to get it implemented correctly.

It’s something I want to do. It is a matter of priority. But it would be great to have support for original Xbox games. So yes, I want to do, but there are many other things we want to do well. People fight with me for not having background music (laughs), so we have much work to do. Which is great! It’s great to have that feedback.

Xbox 360 backward compatibility was one of Microsoft’s best received announcements of this years E3, bringing this to PC would be a great way to reach out to PC gamers and keep people using Microsoft based operating systems for gaming, but there is always the question of money when it comes to things like this.

If Microsoft were willing to create a Xbox 360 emulator. backward compatibility for the PC would you be willing to pay for the emulation software or willing to pay to buy digital version of Xbox 360 games to use on it?

You can join the discussion on Phil Spencer’s wanting to bring Xbox backward compatibility to the PC on the OC3D Forums.  If you were Microsoft how would you plan to market this feature on PC or monetize it?
