A Law Firm is considering a Class Action Lawsuit over PS5 DualSense Controller Drift

Controller drift is an issue that all console manufacturers face, a problem which causes analogue sticks to register movement despite being in their default position. Nintendo has faced lawsuits related to "Joy-Con Drift", and Microsoft are facing similar allegations for their Xbox One gamepads.

Now it's Sony's turn to face this same criticism with their PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, with the US Law Firm Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (CSK&D) asking affected to customers to register with them using this form

CSK&D is the firm behind Nintendo's ongoing Joy-Con Drift class-action lawsuit, and the firm is ready to pounce on Sony as early PS5 users have started reporting similar issues. Controller drift can harm gameplay by registering movements that gamers did not make; this can make new gamepads useless for competitive gaming within weeks of use, rather than years of gaming.

Right now, it is unclear whether or not PS5 DualSense drift is a large enough issue to merit a class action lawsuit. The PS5 is only a few months old, and it remains to be seen whether or not controller drift issues are widespread. If CSK&D receive enough complaints, they will start a class-action lawsuit against Sony, placing the company in a similar bind to both Nintendo and Microsoft.

I find these lawsuits ridiculous, Some slime infested sleazy law firm sues a company for something, Gets some money, Keeps said money and then slinks off back under its slimy rock.Quote

To be fair the point of a class action lawsuit is that it's on behalf of potentially very large numbers of people, Eg everyone who has bought a given product. While you are right that these legal companies bag absolutely ridiculous fees in the process, most of the money from winning a case like this would be distributed amongst owners of PS5 controllers, possibly just ones with the relevant issues, to 'make up' for the issue claimed.Quote

Money from lawsuits very rarely makes it to the actually affected groups, It's nigh on always snatched by the slimy lawyers and all lawyers are slimy.Quote

So, when companies pull of anti-consumer practices or sell subpar products, how will the situation be rectified if not via lawsuits?

Going off against class action lawyers sounds like biting the hand that feeds you - even if the resulting kickback is quite often restricted to US customers.Quote
