Razer announces sentencing of counterfeiters

Razer has announced the sentences of two men selling counterfeited Razer accessories in Asia. Haikun Lin and Ping Gong have both been sentenced to a year in prison and have been fined 140,000 RMB (which is about £14,650), plus another fine of 150,000RMB (almost £15,700) which they have to pay to Razer.

“Counterfeit goods put a huge toll on innovation and growth across many industries worldwide,” says Razer co-founder and CEO, Ming-Liang Tan.

“By investing in bringing down these operations, Razer hopes to set an example that this kind of criminal activity will not be tolerated.”

The International Criminal Court estimates the cost of counterfeited goods on tax revenue and additional welfare spending is up to 125 billion USD in developed countries, resulting in the loss of 2.5 million jobs, as stated in Razer's press release.

What do you think about this? Is this sentence too harsh, or is it well deserved? Let us know.
