ADATA demos its fastest SSDs at Computex 2025

ADATA XPG is exhibiting all its fastest memory technologies at Computex 2025, including their newly released MARS 980 series of PCIe 5.0 SSDs. At their stand was a large range of PC builds on display, all of which appeared to be using MARS 980 SSDs, the company’s flagship PCIe 5.0 SSD series.

ADATA unveiled its XPG MARS 980 series of SSDs last month, revealing three M.2 models. These are the MARS 980 Blade, the MARS 980 PRO, and the MARS 980 STORM. All three models were present at ADATA’s Computex booth.

First, we have the 980 Blade, an SSD model with a thin aluminium heatsink that is compatible with laptops and Sony’s PlayStation 5 console. It is ADATA’s baseline MARS 980 SSD model.

Below we have the ADATA XPG MARS 980 PRO SSD, which features an aluminium alloy heatsink with an integrated fan. ADATA claims that this model has around 15% lower thermals than their thinner Blade model. Despite its increased size, this model retains PlayStation 5 console compatibility.

Finally, there is the ADATA XPG MARS 980 STORM, the largest SSD in the MARS 980 SSD lineup. This SSD’s cooler uses a patented design combining air and liquid cooling elements. The heatsink has two vertical fans that force air through a heatsink solution that contains copper heat pipes. ADATA claims that this solution is 20% cooler than “traditional fanless heatsinks”. This cooler is powered by the user’s M.2 slot, requiring no additional cables to power. This model is intended for users who plan to push this SSD hard with AI or data analytics workloads.

ADATA SSDs at their fastest

All three SSDs promise sequential read/write speeds of up to 14,000/13,000 MB/s, using the PCIe 5.0 interface and 232-layer 3D NAND. All three drives use Silicon Motion’s SM2508 SSD controller, which is built using TSMC’s 6nm lithography node. This controller delivers ultra-fast PCIe 5.0 SSD performance while keeping thermals and power draw in check.

All MARS 980 series SSD models are available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB forms. Note that these SSDs need to be used with PCIe 5.0 platforms to achieve their rated speeds.
