Corsair takes action to combat “return fraud” amid DRAM pricing surge
Corsair has confirmed that it is making changes to its memory packaging, replacing the cardboard boxes of its DDR5 Vengeance memory kits to increase security and combat “return fraud”. With DRAM pricing skyrocketing over the past quarter, it has become more profitable for fraudsters to target DDR5 memory. With its new packaging changes, Corsair has made it easier for buyers and sellers to verify whether their DRAM has been tampered with.
Corsair’s primary change is to transition from cardboard boxes to sealed plastic clamshell packaging. This change allows customers to see their DRAM before opening its packaging. Buyers can easily confirm whether the product they received is the one they ordered, and sellers can ensure that genuine DRAM is returned. Currently, this change only applies to two-module DRAM kits. For further protection, this packaging includes a “tamper-evident belly label”. These tears are opened to make it clear when a package has been unsealed.

As DRAM prices continue to rise, protecting product authenticity has become increasingly important. That’s why we have updated our DRAM packaging, focusing on security and transparency while retaining environmental responsibility.
New CORSAIR DRAM Packaging
Since early January, we have been introducing new packaging across all the VENGEANCE DDR5 (non-RGB, RGB and RGB RS) SKUs in a 2-module configuration. The packaging of these series are transitioning from traditional cardboard boxes to a sealed plastic clamshell made from recycled plastic (the new material provides ESD protection as well.)
This design allows customers to see the actual memory modules before opening the package. Making it easier to confirm the exact product and helping ensure genuine CORSAIR DRAM is being returned when applicable.
To further improve protection, the packaging includes a tamper-evident belly label that tears when opened, making any attempt to reseal the package immediately visible. With the current value of DRAM kits, this added layer of security helps protect customers and retailers from return fraud involving non-genuine modules, or Light Enhancement Kits being passed off as real RAM.
Some DRAM SKUs may still be using the paper box format but we are reintroducing a security label on the box to provide higher protection. This update will roll out soon, aligning those SKUs’ packaging with the same security goals while preserving its familiar presentation.

While some Corsair DRAM kits will still use paper boxes, Corsair has confirmed that these boxes will now feature a “security label”. This provides users with greater protection.
Corsair hopes that its changes will reduce “return fraud” and protect its DDR5 sellers and customers. Hopefully, this change will be enough to prevent this practice moving forward.
