These new DRAM modules pave the way towards Intel’s Alder Lake CPU launch, which will be the first consumer-oriented x86 processor to support DDR5 DRAM. With DDR5, the bandwidth that’s available to compatible systems will increase enormously, thanks to the high clock speeds of DDR5 memory and DDR5’s ability to deliver more data per transfer/clock cycle.Â
Beyond JEDEC’s standardised DDR5-4800 speeds, GeIL is also offering its customers access to higher speed DDR5 modules that offer tighter CL timings. Even so, the CL latencies offered by these DRAM modules appear to be higher than latency-optimised DDR4 memory modules. That said, overclockers could potentially lower the CL latencies of these DDR5 memory modules or increase their clock speeds to deliver improved performance characteristics. Â
In GeIL’s Press Release, which can be read below, the company has stated that their DDR5 memory modules are compatible with Intel’s Z690 platform and AMD’s Zen 4 platform. This information comes one day after AMD revealed the specifications of their next-generation Ryzen platform.Â
