It’s getting worse – Retail DDR5 memory prices continue to increase
DDR5 pricing continues to spike
The DRAM shortage is getting worse. Last week, we released a report detailing the extent to which DDR5 memory prices have risen at UK retailers. Today, we have noticed that more DRAM kits are out of stock, and prices have increased further.
In less than a week, a 32GB (2x16GB) kit of DDR5-6000 Crucial Pro memory has seen its price rise by 28%. To make matters worse, an order from today is expected to ship between January 29th and April 13th from Amazon UK. On September 18th, the same memory kit was available for £79. Since then, the price of this previously affordable DDR5 memory kit has increased by 267%.
| DDR5 Memory | September 18th | November 17th | December 16th | December 22nd (Today) |
| Crucial Pro DDR5-6000 2x16GB CL36 | £79 | £129 (+63%) | £226 (+186%) | £290 (+267%) |
Unfortunately, the price of DDR5 memory isn’t expected to improve anytime soon. In fact, the DRAM shortage is expected to get worse as we enter 2026. Unless demand drops soon, we can expect 2026 to be a bad year for the PC gaming community. DRAM price increases will increase the pricing of PC hardware and complete systems alike. This will make hardware upgrades unaffordable for many enthusiasts and increase computing costs for everyone.
Until supply improves or demand drops, memory pricing will remain high. Today’s DRAM shortage is expected to last for years. That means consumer electronics will become more expensive, and product makers will start installing less RAM in their products.
