KIOXIA releases the world’s first 2TB MicroSD card

KIOXIA are mass producing the world’s first 2TB MicroSD card

KIOXIA has achieved what many thought to be impossible. The company have started mass producing 2TB MicroSD cards. With their new Exceria Plus G2 MicroSDXC 2TB cards, KIOXIA has delivered industry-leading storage capacities within a fingernail-sized form factor.

While the MicroSDXC specification has technically supported 2TB capacities for over a decade, no manufacturer has successfully created a consumer-ready 2TB product. KIOXIA is the first company to achieve this feat. To do this, the company uses an in-house controller design, their own BiCS 3D Flash, and other in-house technologies.

With their latest EXCERIA PLUS G2 MicroSD cards, KIOXIA has managed to use their proprietary manufacturing technologies to stack 16 1 terabit dues of 3D flash memory on top of each other while maintaining MicroSD’s 0.8mm maximum thickness. The drive is said to offer users read speed up to 100 MB/s and write speed up to 90 MB/s. It also meets the UHS Speed Class 3 (U3), Application Class 1 (A1), and Video Speed Class 30 (V30) storage specifications.

KIOXIA’s new 2TB MicroSD cards will be transformative for many users. This MicroSD card can store over 41 hours of 100Mbps video, making it ideal for action cameras. Its huge storage capacity will also make it an interesting product for users of portable gaming products like the ROG Ally or Steam Deck.

KIOXIA expects their 2TB EXCERIA PLUS G2 2TB MicroSD cards to become available at retailers in early 2024.
