Samsung reveals 10nm-class 32GB DDR4 memory SO-DIMMs for Gaming Notebooks

Samsung has officially started manufacturing 32GB DDR4 memory SO-DIMMs for high-powered notebooks, using their latest 10nm-class DDR4 memory modules.  

These modules are designed to offer users high capacities, low power consumption levels and higher levels of memory throughput, providing an 11% performance boost, a 2x increase ins storage density and up to a 39% decrease in power draw. This performance boost comes from increased clock speeds, with Samsung’s older 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMMs offering speeds of 2400MHz, whereas Samsung’s new 32GB SO-DIMMs can deliver speeds fo 2666MHz. 

To create this memory, Samsung is using their sixteen 16Gb DRAM chips, using eight chips on each side of their DDR4 SO-DIMMs to offer a combined capacity of 32GB. Samsung’s previous DDR4 SO-DIMMs max out at 16GB per module, thanks to their use of 8Gb DDR4 memory modules.

Samsung is aggressively scaling all of their memory technologies, offering 10nm-class 16Gb chips for the LPDDR4, GDDR5, and DDR4 memory standards. It is clear that Samsung is paving the way for a new 16Gb era for high-end DRAM technology, which could find its way into supercomputers, self-driving cars and gaming systems. 

Samsung has not released pricing for their new 32GB SODIMM memory modules or when we can expect to see this memory in stores or inside shipping systems.
