SK Hynix confirms plans to launch 3GB GDDR7 memory modules

SK Hynix plans to launch 3GB GDDR7 memory modules – Ready for Nvidia’s RTX 50 SUPER series GPUs?

As part of the company’s Q2 2025 earnings call, SK Hynix has confirmed that it plans to launch 24Gb (3GB) GDDR7 memory modules to “enhance its leadership in the AI memory market with product diversification.”

Currently, Samsung is the only memory producer that manufactures 24Gb GDDR7 memory modules. With SK Hynix joining their ranks, memory customers will be able to enjoy the benefits of increased supply and multiple manufacturers.

Currently, Nvidia uses 24Gb GDDR7 memory modules on some of its Blackwell series graphics cards. They are used with Nvidia’s mobile RTX 5090 GPUs and their RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell workstation GPUs. Rumour has it that Nvidia plans to use 3GB GDDR7 memory modules across most of its planned “RTX 50 SUPER” series GPUs, giving gamers access to more memory than with today’s RTX 50 series graphics cards.

Rumour has it that Nvidia plans to launch three RTX 50 SUPER series GPUs with 3GB GDDR7 memory chips. Nvidia’s RTX 5060 SUPER may feature 12GB of GDDR7 memory. The RTX 5070 SUPER could feature 18GB of GDDR7 memory. Finally, Nvidia’s RTX 5080 SUPER could feature 24GB of GDDR7 memory. Note that these chips could also be used to create 48GB RTX 5090 SUPEr graphics cards.

These memory chips may be what makes Nvidia’s RTX 50 SUPER series graphics cards special. With this in mind, SK Hynix’s entry into the 24Gb GDDR7 memory arena can only be seen as a good thing. If recent rumours are anything to go by, Nvidia’s RTX 50 SUPER GPUs will launch in 2026.
