Team Group has created the world’s first DDR5 SO-DIMMs for next-gen notebooks
Team Group claims that it will likely be the first manufacturer to have DDR5 SO-DIMMs validated by AMD and Intel, which means that they should be the first manufacturer to create next-gen validated DDR5 SO-DIMMs.Â
Right now, the DDR5 SO-DIMM specification is similar to its desktop counterpart, shipping with lower voltages, reduced power consumption, on-die ECC and higher frequencies than DDR4. Team Group’s DDR5 SO-DIMM’s currently feature 16GB of memory and frequencies of 4,800MHz, operating at 1.1V.Â
Within their press release, Team Group has emphasised that they have revealed product specifications that “are from successfully developed products”, throwing shade at the DRAM manufacturers who have listed higher DRAM speeds in their press releases. It is not uncommon for DRAM manufacturers to list DDR5 speed targets in their press releases, speeds which have not been achieved by their early DDR5 modules.Â
Team Group has confirmed that they plan to work with CPU and motherboard manufacturers to achieve higher DRAM speeds in the future.Â
