AMD acquiring Silo AI for $665 million to expand its AI offerings

AMD steps up its AI expansion with Silo AI acquisition

AMD has today agreed to acquire the Finnish AI startup Silo AI, a privately owned AI company, for $665 million. This acquisition will allow AMD to enhance its AI capabilities and compete with Nvidia, the current leader of the AI market.

Silo AI specialist in end-to-end AI solutions for customers. The company describes itself as Europe’s largest AI lab and has customers that include Allianz SE, Unilever Plc, and Rolls Royce. With this acquisition, AMD will be able to improve the way that they develop and deploy end-to-end AI solutions to customers. Silo AI will become part of AMD’s Artificial Intelligence Group when the acquisition closes later this year.

Below is what AMD’s Vamsi Boppana, senior vice president of the Artificial Intelligence Group at AMD, had to say about the acquisition.

Across every industry, enterprises are looking for fast and effective ways to develop and deploy AI solutions for their unique business needs,

Silo AI’s team of trusted AI experts and proven experience developing leadership AI models and solutions, including state-of-the-art LLMs built on AMD platforms, will further accelerate our AI strategy and advance the build-out and rapid implementation of AI solutions for our global customers.

This acquisition will allow AMD to better deploy their hardware and integrate AI into the workflows of their customers. This will help AMD to sell their AI hardware, and to find new customers within the AI market.

last year, AMD acquired both Nod.ai and Mipsology, both of which have played a role within AMD’s AI strategy. The acquisition of Silo AI is AMD’s largest investment yet into this market. This showcases AMD’s commitment to the AI market and AI software development. There’s more the the AI market than hardware alone. AMD knows that they need to deliver end-to-end solutions to succeed in this market. That’s what makes their acquisition of Silo AI an important one for both AMD and the broader AI market.
