It’s official – Sony has revealed their PS5 Pro
PS5 Pro is launching on November 7th – Here’s what it does
Sony’s Mark Cerny has revealed its new PS5 Pro console, revealing that the system will be available on November 7th. With this new console, Sony promises to deliver higher-quality visuals. To achieve this, the new console has 28% faster memory, a GPU with 67% more compute units and other new hardware capabilities.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is built on three pillars. First, there is its larger GPU. Next, we have its enhanced ray-tracing capabilities. Finally, there is the addition of custom hardware for machine learning, which adds AI upscaling to PS5 Pro in the form of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution). Together, these upgrades will make games look and play best on PlayStation 5 Pro.
Regarding ray tracing, Sony claims that its new system can deliver 2-3x faster ray tracing than PlayStation 5. Rendering speeds are up to 45% faster with its new GPU. Beyond that, adding AI upscaling will make upscaled games more crisp and detailed. With PS5 Pro, ray tracing can appear in more areas of games. Beyond that, the system’s other upgrades will enable better visuals in every game with a “performance mode”.
With PlayStation 5 Pro, Sony aimed to deliver fidelity mode visuals with performance mode framerates. Sony found that gamers chose “Performance Mode” in games with that option almost two-thirds of the time. With their upgraded system, Sony aims to deliver a better performance mode experience to gamers. That said, this console has its downsides.
The PS5 Pro is an expensive console
How much does PS5 Pro cost? It will cost £699.99 in the UK. That’s $699.99 in the US and â¬799.99 in Europe. Another thing to note is that this system will not ship with a disk drive. Owners must buy a disk drive add-on to use their PS4 or PS5 disks. It’s also worth noting that this system comes with a standard PS5 DualSense gamepad, not a DualSense Elite controller. This is incredibly expensive for a console.
