Nintendo delays US Switch 2 Pre-orders to assess Trump Tariff impact

Nintendo has delayed Switch 2 pre-orders in the US, and that likely means that a price hike is coming

Earlier this week, Nintendo revealed its Switch 2 console, confirming a US price of $449.99  for the console and $499.99 for the system with a copy of Mario Kart World. Now, Nintendo has delayed Switch 2 pre-orders in the US to give them time to assess the impact of the tariffs introduced by the Trump administration. This could mean that the Switch 2 is getting a Trump Tariff price hike in the US.

Note that Nintendo has not delayed pre-orders for any region outside of the USA. Pre-orders will become available for all other global regions at their previously announced times.

Currently, it is unknown how Nintendo’s new console will be impacted by the Trump administration’s tariffs. The Switch 2 has likely been made with components that are sourced all over the globe. This is why Nintendo needs time to assess the impact of the US’ tariffs on the new console.

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.

Nintendo to GameStop

If Nintendo changes the price of its Switch 2 console, gamers will know exactly how much the Trump Tariff costs them. We expect to know the US pricing of Nintendo’s new console next week.
