Red VS Blue creator Rooster Teeth Is Shutting Down

Rooster Teeth is getting shut down by Warner Bros. Discovery

After two decades of operation, Rooster Teeth is closing down by Warner Bros. Discovery. This closure will reportedly result in layoffs for the company’s 150 full time staff, its contractors, and associated content creators.

Announcing the company’s upcoming closure, general manager Jordan Levin stated that the closure was due to “challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behaviour and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.” For now, the Roost Podcast Network will remain active. Warner Bros. Discovery are reportedly searching for a buyer for the podcasting group.

Since inheriting ownership and control of Rooster Teeth from AT&T following its acquisition of TimeWarner, Warner Bros. Discovery continued its investment in our company, content and community. Now however, it’s with a heavy heart I announce that Rooster Teeth is shutting down due to challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.

Rooster Teeth are most famous for its Red vs Blue comedy machinima series, and its RWBY animated series. More recently, the company has created gen:Lock, an animated mecha series. At this time, Warner Bros. Discovery are reportedly looking for a buyer for the company’s backlogs and rights.

For the past decade, Rooster Teeth’s reportedly ran at a loss, with the company’s RTX in-person fan conventions reportedly never turning a profit. Recent years have also seen the company mired in controversy. This is both due to the conduct of some of their on-screen personalities, and the company’s treatment of employees.
