Sony raises the prices of all PS5 models in the US
Sony officially increases its PS5 console prices in the US amid tariff concerns
Starting today, Sony has officially increased the prices of its PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro) consoles in the US, citing “a challenging economic environment”. These price increases are exclusive to the US market, leading many to speculate that the US government’s tariffs have caused this price hike.
Currently, the prices for Sony’s PlayStation 5 accessories remain unchanged. All PS5 console models have had their prices increased by $50.
Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.
The updated recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. are as follows:
- PlayStation 5 – $549.99
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
- PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
At launch, Sony’s PS5 Digital Edition was priced at $399.99. Now this console costs $499.99. That’s a price increase of $100. In percentage terms, that’s a 25% price increase. For prior console generations, systems tended to become more affordable as they aged, with manufacturers being able to produce cost-reduced versions thanks to technological advancements. The current state of PlayStation 5 pricing is a scathing indictment of the modern tech sector and economic landscape.
