SteamDB has been acquired by Nexus Mods

SteamDB now has a new owner

SteamDB is one of the most useful Steam databases on the internet, providing gamers, developers, publishers, and analysts access to data that Steam doesn’t publish. Pavel “xPaw” Djundik co-founded SteamDB as a hobby project in 2013 and, after years of effort, has decided to move on. Simply put, SteamDB grew beyond what he could maintain. That’s where Chosen, the owner of Nexus Mods, stepped in; they now own SteamDB and will maintain it moving forward.

SteamDB will remain separate from Nexus Mods and will continue to operate under its own name. Chosen will give SteamDB the resources and development capacity to remain stable long-term. Beyond that, Chosen plans to connect SteamDB’s data to its modding tools and metadata to do useful things. For example, mod managers could define a game’s version based on its files, and warn gamers if an update will break their mods, or if new mods are compatible with their game version.

Nexus Mods has been serving gaming communities for more than two decades and, like SteamDB, grew from a passion project into a service relied upon by tens of millions of people. What mattered most to me was finding a team that understands what it means to be responsible for something the community depends on, and that shares my belief in building useful tools for gamers.

SteamDB will continue to be SteamDB. The goal is not to change what makes the project special, but to give it the resources, development capacity and long-term stability that I could no longer provide alone.

I have full confidence the team will be able to continue improving the project for gamers, developers and publishers alike. I will be helping the team ensure a smooth transition in the coming months.

This project has occupied my whole adult life. Thank you to everyone who has used SteamDB, contributed to it, reported bugs, shared it with others, or simply found it useful.

xPaw will work with Chosen and the new SteamDB team during its transition to Chosen/Nexus Mods. SteamDB will continue to work as before and will remain free. Now, SteamDB’s future doesn’t rely on a single developer. That’s good news for SteamDB and everyone who uses it.

I think the PC gaming community has a lot ot thank xPaw for. SteamDB is an incredibly useful tool, and their efforts to create and maintain it are appreciated. Thanks, xPaw, thanks for everything.
