The Last of Us’ Joel will be played by Pedro Pascal in live-action TV adaptation
In the early hours of this morning, Bella Ramsey, who played Lyanna Mormot in Game of Thrones, was confirmed as the actress behind Ellie, while Pedro Pascal, who plays the titular role as Star Wars’ The Mandalorian, was revealed as Joel. Both actors are well known for their prior roles and bring a lot of talent to the series’ TV debut.Â
The Last of Us is a franchise that’s based in the aftermath of a civilization-destroying fungal outbreak, where a variant of the cordyceps fungus turned large sections of the world’s population into zombie-like creatures. The game series takes place 20 years after the outbreak, where Joel, a smuggler and hardened survivor is given a job to traverse the US to deliver a girl, Ellie to a team of scientists who could use her to save the world.Â
At this time, it is unknown how closely the series will follow the events of the games, or how elements of the game’s story will be adapted as part of the franchises TV debut. With the series’ two main actors confirmed, it will only be a matter of time before we start seeing production photos and trailers for the series. That said, it may take a while for this series to come to fruition.Â
