Thieves steal CPUs and GPUs from “Esports Hotel” PCs in China

Guests steal Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs and RTX 5070 GPUs from “Esport Hotel” PCs in China

A “Esports Hotel” in China has reportedly become the site of a massive robbery, as “several young guests” stole some of the high-end components within several of the hotel’s gaming PCs.

Amongst the stolen hardware were AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D gaming CPUs and RTX 5070 graphics cards. Strangely, the DRAM within these gaming PCs were not stolen, despite their value. Accessories like gaming mice and keyboards were also taken.

In the video below, the hotel owner seemed surprised by the robbery and the fact that many valuable components were not taken. Each PC’s DRAM, storage, and liquid cooling solutions were not taken. The thieves also left behind a new screwdriver box. It is thought that the robbery was not planned, given the fact that the theves allegedly purchased this screwdriver during their stay.

Recently, a theft took place at an esports hotel in China. Several young guests stole Ryzen 9 9800X3D processors and RTX 5070 graphics cards from multiple gaming PCs along with several gaming mice before checking out. The hotel owner has filed a police report.

Given the hotel owner’s contact with the alleged thieves on WeChat (the government-linked messaging app), Chinese authorities are likely to find and arrest them.

Due to the value of the hotel’s gaming PCs, it is unsurprising that thieves have targeted it. However, it is odd that the thieves stayed at the hotel. It is also strange that the thieves were in contact with hotel staff on a government-backed social media app. It is likely that these thieves will be arrested soon.
