This car is an Xbox – Xbox Cloud Gaming comes to “Select Vehicles”
Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to cars thanks to a new LG/Microsoft partnership
LG and Microsoft have partnered up to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to internet-connected vehicles. This cloud gaming support will come thanks to a new Xbox app that will be available on LG’s Automotive Content Platform (ACP). This app will give Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers access to hundreds of games, including titles such as Gears of War: Reloaded, Forza Horizon 5. Yes, your car can now be an Xbox.
Note that an “automotive data plan” will be required to access streaming services. Gamers will also need a compatible Bluetooth controller. Microsoft has already brought Xbox Cloud Gaming to LG TVs through LG’s webOS platform. This app is expected to be broadly similar to their new in-vehicle Xbox App. Note that cloud gaming is expected to only be available “from the back seat”. This is presumably to prevent drivers from getting distracted (or gaming while driving).
Vehicles like the Kia EV3 already use LG’s Automotive Content Platform (ACP). This could make the Kia EW3 one of the first vehicles to become “an Xbox that goes VROOM”. This content platform also enables streaming through services like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, and Crunchyroll.
While playing Xbox in a car is a fun idea, it’s hard to see it being a good gaming experience. Will a moving vehicle have a stable enough internet connection for gaming? Will latency be an issue? While having access to an Xbox on a road trip sounds fun, I’m not sure I’m sold on the concept.
