Boogie2988 has been hacked - YouTube needs to improve its security

Today a lot of people can make their living online, whether it be as a journalist, freelance writer, critic, YouTube personality or online streamer. In the digital age security is key, protecting your online identity from being stolen and in many cases protecting your potential income.

Yesterday Boogie2988, a popular online personality with over 3.4 Million subscribers had his account stolen and deleted because of online hackers.  This hacker was able to steal Boogie's phone number and gain access to his account, though since then his account has been restored.

Below is a statement from Boogie regarding this recent hack, though he promises to make a video explaining what has happened at a later date. Right now he is at an event called VidCon, preventing him from making a video on the subject.

Hey guys. Boogie here.

Looks like we got hacked again. Someone manage to steal my phone number and used it to gain access to everything.

We are working now to get everything back up and running. Channel should be back in a few days.

Until you see a video from me explaining we got everything back please don't trust any links or anything I post anywhere on any social media including here!

Love you guys! We are going to go enjoy the rest of vidcon!

This highlights the need for YouTube to improve the security of its platform, not only to protect the potential earnings of content creators but to protect the investment and future earning that YouTube itself makes from content creators like Boogie.

In recent months we have already seen several high-profile content creators get their channels hacked, including some from the PC hardware side like JayzTwoCents.

Thankfully Boogie2988 has already had his channel restored, but this highlights what seems to be a growing problem on the YouTube platform.

Because that has anything to do with hacking.

Not just YT. Every digital service or Software constantly needs to be on top of there game in this digital age. Hackers will always find a way. Though doesn't mean we make it easy, hence why the Cyber Security industry is exploding. They should follow more of there guidelines I guessQuote
