EagleTree Capital is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Corsair

Reports are coming in that Corsair, the popular PC component and accessories maker, is in advanced talks with EagleTree Capital regarding a potential acquisition. This would have the private equity firm buy Corsair for over $500 million (USD), at least according to sources from Reuters.

At the time o writing Corsair creates a wide range of PC hardware, from full systems to PC cases, RAM, SSDs, PSU, cooling solutions and a wide range of PC accessories. Corsair is easily one of the most popular brands in the gaming market, making it a big target for acquisition given the recent growth in both the gaming and eSports markets.

Razer, another PC and gaming accessories and system maker, is also set to go public later this year, with the company reportedly being valued at over $3 billion, again showing how much the gaming market it worth today.

EagleTree Capital are reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Corsair

Until now, Corsair has not been free from external investment, with Francisco Partners Management LLC (a different equity firm), making a $75 million investment back in 2013.

At this time both Corsair and EagleTree has declined to comment on this acquisition.

I don't know, but I don't like the smell of this. I've seen a few premier companies get taken over and then everything was cheap tat with the badge on. I hope they maintain the higher quality parts of Corsair that have made it as extreme as it is.Quote

EagleTree Capital is a private equity firm.

This is bad news because all they want to do is make as much money for the share holders as possible in as shorter time as possible.Quote
