Telecom provider FreedomPop is taking its free data plan to the UK this summer. Including 200 minutes of voice calls, 200 texts and 200MB of data per month, this may just be the ultimate value bundle.

On top of this normal data bundle, FreedomPop is also launching 'Jetsetter', a roaming data SIM later this year. Jetsetter users will receive 100MB of high-speed data for free.

The company is already offering a free data plan in the US, and that currently has more than half a million users.  FreedomPop will make money by selling additional services (such as additional data), as stated by the firm itself. One of these things is the ability to roll over your unused data to the next month.

Another interesting feature is the ability to add a second phone number to your data bundle for £2 per month. This may come in handy if you have relatives abroad. Let's say you live in the UK and you have a relative in the US. For just £2 per month you can get a US-based number. That way you only need to pay local rates to call that relative.

Even though FreedomPop's free bundle includes more data in the US (500 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB), the US firm aims to reach 100,000 UK subscribers this summer. Will you be one of them? Let us know.

Nothing special here really. Basically they have finally managed to add an MVNO network in the UK, and configured a PCRF to allow data buckets. 100mb isn't much, even its its free monthly. I'm sure they will make the deal better later on this year. They will certainly miss out alot not having the roaming sim ready for summer. Plus since they can piggy back the main network providers wholesale IOT discounts, giving this away free doesn't even put a dent in their margins. Only reason others aren't doing this is because the future of mobile roaming is data (obviously) and when you make such a huge profit margin on this, why change.

I'm not even going to comment how much profit Norwegian networks make on data each month. It really is ridiculous. At least Freedompop are being more aggressive than others in marketting and dropping costs. Eventually others will have to slowly start to follow suit.Quote
