Ikea unveils phone-charging furniture

Ikea has unveiled a range of furniture which has built-in wireless charging spots for mobile devices. These will be available for sale in the UK and US next month.

The new range of furniture will include lamps, bedside tables and coffee tables, alongside a individual charging pad which can be used on any surface (Shown above). This range of furniture will be known as the Home Smart range.

The wireless standard which Ikia will use is the Qi standard, which is used by many of today's devices like the LG G3, the Nexus 6 and Samsung's upcoming S6 phone. There will be however some devices which cannot wirelessly charge using IKIA's furniture, if they use an incompatible wireless charging standard (like the PMA standard).

Some devices will support both wireless charging standards, but some will not, we advise users to look into which wireless charging standard their devices can support before buying a wireless charger.

An other new feature of IKEA’s new Home Smart furniture is that some of the pieces will also include USB ports to allow you to plug other devices into it too, meaning that there will only need to be a single power input to the furniture rather than having to plug individual wireless chargers into the wall.
