One Steam Deck a minute will be given away for free during The Game Awards

Valve’s giving away a 512GB Steam Deck every minute during The Game Awards

This years The Game Awards will be available to stream live on Steam, and to incentivise PC gamers to watch the ceremony, Valve plans to give away a free 512GB Steam Deck handheld every minute while the show is being streamed.

This year, The Game Awards is expected to last for around 2.5 hours, which means that Valve plans to give away around 150 Steam Deck systems during the event. To be able to win a Steam Deck, you will need to be a PC gamer in the US, Canada, UK, or EU, register for the event, have a Steam account that is in good standing, and watch The Game Awards on Steam.

Every minute of the show, Valve will draw a random name from their list of registered viewers. Viewers will need to be watching The Game Awards during every draw, which means that Steam users will need to watch as much of The Game Awards as they can to maximise their chances of winning.

This year’s The Game Awards starts at 5 PM PT, which translates to 1 AM GMT. This means that PC gamers in the UK and Europe will need to watch The Game Awards on Steam at very awkward hours to have a chance to win a Steam Deck. The Game Awards’ pre-show will start half an hour earlier at 4:30 PM PT, which is 0:30 AM in the UK.

To be in with a chance to win a Steam Deck during The Game Awards, Steam users will need to register their Steam accounts here and have made a purchase on Steam between November 14th 2021 and November 14th 2022. These restrictions are designed to prevent spammers from winning free Steam Decks while maximising the chance that Valve’s handhelds will be won by active PC gamers.
