Corsair makes 12V-2×6 safe with new “ThermalProtect” cables
Corsair has built an affordable solution to the 12V-2×6 problem
Corsair has officially launched its new ThermalProtect 12V-2×6 power cables, adding cable over-temperature protection to its 600W GPU power cables. This feature shuts down GPUs when unsafe temperatures are detected, allowing users to remove and reseat their cables before any damage to their system occurs.
This feature should prevent cable melting incidents by shutting down GPUs before excessively high cable temperatures damage hardware. This solution supports all native 12V-2×6 power supplies. That means that this cable works with non-Corsair PSUs. With an asking price of £14.99 in the UK (24.99 in the US), this cable is a must-buy upgrade for anyone concerned about melting 12V-2×6 cables.
How does Corsair ThermalProtect work?
Corsair’s new PSU cable is rated for 600W and uses flexible debossed cables with low-profile cable combs. These cables are backed by a two-year warranty and are available in black and white.
Once Corsair’s Over Temperature Protection (OTP) tech activates, users need to shut down their PCs and allow their 12V-2×6 cable to cool down. Once their cables have cooled, users should check for damage and reseat them. Users should ensure that their cables are pressed in correctly. There should be an audible click when your cable’s retention connector clamps down. Additionally, users should not be able to see the grey power connectors on Corsair’s 12V-2×6 cables.
Corsair’s OTP tech activates if temperatures exceed 65 degrees. Corsair’s detection hardware is located 30mm from the GPU connection. Corsair claims that this tech can shut down GPUs in “milliseconds”.

At £14.99, these PSU cables are a great option for any RTX 50 series GPU user who is concerned about the 12V-2×6 power standard. If you want peace of mind, £14.99 is a small price to pay. Furthermore, with support for any native 12V-2×6 PSU, his cable will work on Corsair and non-Corsair PCs.
