Efficiency is easily one of the most important performance metrics in the PSU market, as it has an impact on more than just power draw. Inefficient power supplies run hotter and are more likely to require a faster fan to remain cool, turning a PSU into an unwanted noise source under high loads. The efficiency rating of a PSU can impact more than just its off-the-wall power draw.

At Computex 2018, Corsair is focusing on efficiency, introducing an updated version of their SF series of PSUs alongside a new Vengeance series of low-cost power supplies.

Corsair’s new SF series of power supplies are similar to their last-generation counterparts, shipping in 450W (SF450) and 600W (SF600) models with a higher efficiency rating of 80 Platinum, offering increased voltage stability and reduced ripple when compared to their already impressive last-generation counterparts.

Last-generation SF series power supplies shipped with an efficiency rating of 80% Gold, making Corsair’s latest models notably more efficient while maintaining the same form factor and modularity. Corsair’s SF series of PSUs are fully modular and fit into the compact SFX form factor, making them extremely suitable for small form factor PCs. Corsair’s SF450 and SF600 are both available for pre-order in the UL with prices of £89.99 and £104.99 respectively.

These new SF series power supplies will be backed up with a seven-year warranty, which is longer than the lifespan of most PC components before upgrading.

Another notable upgrade for the SF series is the inclusion of individually braided cables with each unit, which will go a long way towards making your small form factor builds look slicker than ever, at least when using stock cables.

Corsair’s new Vengeance line of power supplies offers users an 80 Gold efficiency rating, providing a mid-point between the standard 80 Bronze and 80 Gold certifications, delivering 88% power efficiency under 50% loads when tested using 230V EU power.

These new units will ship with 750W (Vengeance 750M) and 650W ( Vengeance 650M) models with pre-order price tags of £84.99 and £74.99 respectively in the UK. These units will ship with a five-year warranty, with both capacities coming with semi-modular cables.

The Vengeance series will ship with an “ultra-quiet” 120mm cooling fan with a zero RPM fan mode for low-medium system loads. Corsair’s Silver-grade efficiency helps keep heat production at manageable levels to maintain low temperatures and minimal fan noise.
