MSI are taking their PSUs to the next level with their MAG A1250GL PCIE5

MSI’s taking their PSUs to the next level at CES 2024

At MSI’s CES 2024 booth, we got to see some of the company’s latest power supplies. Specifically, we got to see the MSI MAG A1250GL PCIE5 and the MAG A850GL PCIE5 White. Both of these PSUs feature 80+ Gold Efficiency certifications, and MSI’s custom dual-colour 12V-2×6 connectors.

What makes MSI’s new MAG A1250GL PCIE5 “next level” in our eyes is their support for the new ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 power standards. These PSU uses 12V-2×6 connectors (which have replaced 12VHPWR), support up to 3x GPU power excursion, and 2x total power excursion. To say the least, this PSU is overbuilt, and that is great news for anyone who needs this level of power delivery.

With their latest power supplies, MSI has opted to use custom dual-colour 12V-2×6 power connectors. These connectors allow users to see if their cables are fully inserted. This is a useful feature for PC builders, as you need to have your cables fully seated for them to function correctly.

Above is an exaggerated example of what a improperly connected 12V-2×6 cable looks like. If you see yellow, you need to push your cables in more. This is harder to judge with all-black connectors. Below you can see a full seated 12V-2×6 connector.

MSI will be releasing their MAG A1250GL PCIE5 PSU sometime in Q2 2024 for $229 in the US. Sadly, we do not know the UK or European pricing of this power supply at this time.
