Seasonic pushes new OptiSink tech with new Focus GX V4 PSUs

Seasonic launches their new OptiSink PSU tech with their new Focus V4 series of power supplies

Seasonic has radically changed its PSU design process with its new Focus GX V4 series models. This new PSU lineup has been redesigned with a new internal layout, new manufacturing processes, and new “OptiSink” technology. With these changes, Seasonic claims its new units are more efficient and reliable. In the eyes of Seasonic, the new Focus 2024 lineup is a huge success, so much so that all other Seasonic PSU series’ will be updated with their “OptiSink” technology.

Seasonic’s Focus GX V4 series will be available in 750W, 850W, and 1000W forms. All models will be available in black and white, feature fully modular cables, and have a native 12V-2×6 power connector. They also have a 10-year warranty, an 80+ Gold efficiency rating, and are ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 certified.

What’s Seasonic OptiSink, and why does it make the Focus GX V4 series special?

Seasonic’s new OptiSink technology rethinks PSU design with a new internal hardware layout. Seasonic now produces its PSUs using smaller MOSFETs and heatsink components using automated surface mounting technology. This change increases the internal space inside their power supplies, promoting increased airflow.

With this new design, internal space is increased by 48%. At full load, Seasonic’s new Focus GX V4 PSUs can exchange heat significantly faster, increasing its thermal efficiency.

During manufacturing, Seasonic directly solders its MOS (Metal Oxide Semiconductor) to a PCB’s copper surface. Older manufacturing methods would attach these MOS components to an aluminium heatsink through a thermal pad. Seasonic says that their new copper PCB mounting method results in an 8x increase in thermal conductivity, dramatically improving the thermal performance of their PSU components. This is why their new OptiSink PSUs don’t need large aluminium heatsinks inside.

Seasonic’s new Focus GX 2024 PSUs will be available in Europe this month and available in the US in mid-November. Below are the MSRP prices of Seasonic’s new OptiSink PSUs.

  • FOCUS GX-750: $129.99 (USA) / €119.90 (Europe) / $119.99 (ROW)
