Silence! Corsair deliver ultra-low noise levels with their new RMx PSU lineup
Corsair has given their RMx PSU lineup a major overhaul
Today, Corsair has launched a new generation of RMx series power supplies, adding ATX 3.1 compliance and 12V-2×6 power to their popular PSU range. Not only did this new PSU range obtain Cybenetics Gold efficiency ratings (remember, Corsair abandoned the old 80+ standard), but the new RMx range also has an A+ Noise rating.
To our knowledge, this is the first power supply to achieve an A+ noise rating at Cybenetics. To achieve this rating, noise requirements of 15-20 dB(A) must be met. Those are “good luck getting any room quiet enough to hear this” noise levels. To achieve this, Corsair has invested in a new fan design for its RMx series, which delivers lower noise levels and a longer lifespan.
One added feature of this PSU is its “manual fan override knob”, which will allow users to set this PSU’s fan to whatever speeds they want. That’s great news for anyone who dislikes PSUs with semi-passive fan functionality. It may also be the only way to get this fan spinning fast enough to heat it under normal use cases. For this reason, I suspect that Corsair insiders may call this the “volume knob”.
The new Corsair RMx series has 12V-2×6 power!
With the addition of a 12V-2×6 power connector, the new RMx PSU lineup is ready for the next generation of GPUs. This PSU will be available in 750W, 850W, and 1000W forms, making them ready for most gaming systems. All three units are fully modular and come with ultra-flexible type-4 Corsair cables. If you want custom cables for this PSU, search for Corsair Type-4 cables. You can either use a custom PSU cable provider like CableMod. Corsair also sells a selection of sleeved PSU cable kits.
Corsair’s new RMx series power supplies should be available starting today. All in all, this appears to be a nice upgrade for the popular RMx lineup. This is easily one of the quietest PSUs on the market. Honestly, it is great to see Corsair pushing to deliver quieter components. Now I have to wonder: how long will it be until Corsair releases a passive PSU?
