This PSU is Revolutionary – MSI MPG AI1600TS PCIE5 Hand-On
MSI’s Safeguard features will revolutionise the PSU market
MSI has just disrupted the PSU market with its MPG Ai1600TS PCIE5 and its transformative “GPU Safeguard” features. MSI has solved the dreaded 12V-2×6/12VHPR cable melting fiasco. With GPU Safeguard, your GPU is protected.
Aside from its new safeguard+ features, MSI’s 1600W MPG Ai1600TS PCIE5 and its little brother, the 1300W MPG Ai1300TS PCIE5, are both high-end PSUs. Both feature two 12V-2×6 power connectors, Titanium-grade efficiency, and support MSI Center for PSU monitoring.
Compared with its last-gen counterparts, these new PSUs claim to run 10% cooler thanks to their SiC MOSFETS. That makes the new Ai-TS series cooler running and quieter under load.

GPU Safeguard+
With GPU Safeguard+, every pin on a PSU’s 12V-2×6 power connectors is monitored. This monitors their voltage condition and can trigger protection measures if issues are detected. If the current is too uneven across the cable, protection measures are activated. When faults are detected, users will receive a notification on their PC to alert them to the issue. Additionally, an audible alarm will start playing on their PSU. If no action is taken, the PSU will power down the system after three minutes. This should prevent potential cable-burning/melting incidents.
If faults are detected, users can reseat their 12V-2×6 connectors or replace their power cables to address the issue. Safeguard+ ensures that action is taken before any damage is done.
Software and hardware warnings and protection
Below, we can see MSI Center measuring the current draw from each cable on a 12V-2×6 power cable. If abnormalities are detected, a warning will be displayed to users. This data is logged for future reference, should users need it.
MSI’s bringing Safeguard features to several new PSU models
Safeguard+ is exclusive to MSI’s Ai1600TS PCIE5 and Ai1300TS PCIE5 power supplies, but a standard version of this feature will be available in lower-end PSUs. The MAG A1200LPS PCIE5 and MAG A1000PLS PCIE5 will feature the built-in PSU alarm that sounds whenever a fault is detected. While it won’t deliver software pop-ups, it will warn gamers before any damage is done to hardware. In other words, this feature does not need PC-side real-time monitoring features to operate.
Let’s face it, the 12V-2×6 power standard has problems. MSI wouldn’t need to create Safeguard+ if it didn’t. Since 12V-2×6 isn’t going anywhere, most PSU manufacturers will likely copy MSI’s Safeguard feature set over time. That said, MSI is first on the scene. If you want to “safeguard” your 12V-2×6 GPU, MSI’s newest PSUs seem to be a solid investment. Well done MSI, Safeguard and Safeguard+ are great PSU features.
