A new hope for a Red Dead Redemption remaster? – Take-Two reveals three upcoming ports/remasters
Take-Two has three unannounced “new iterations of prior releases” in development, and the publisher has confirmed that these games are not sequels or new games. These three unannounced games are new ports of existing games or remasters of older titles.Â
This disclosure has added fuel to the fire of rumours that Rockstar Games plans to remaster some of their older Grand Theft Auto titles, such as Grant Theft Auto 3, San Andreas, and Vice City. It has also added to the long-running rumours that Red Dead Redemption will be getting remastered following the success of Red Dead Redemption 2.Â
While a lot of focus has been given to potential remasters from Rockstar Games, it is worth noting that Take-Two Interactive publishes games under their 2K brand and through their subsidiary Private Division. This opens the door for potential remasters for Bioshock titles, Borderlands games, or other popular 2K titles. With Private Division being a relatively new entity, none of their games are likely candidates for remasters/ports.Â
Personally, I would love to see Red Dead Redemption arrive on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as the original game’s crying out for high framerate support and higher resolution playback. Many Red Dead Redemption 2 players want to play the original, and many of those gamers do not have access to hardware that supports it. Red Dead Redemption is a game that is worth remastering, and would certainly sell well enough to justify the porting effort. Â
