Black Ops 6 sets UK Gaming Traffic records on EE/BT networks
The release of Black Ops 6 saw Xbox Live traffic increase by 144%
The launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has set UK “gaming traffic” records, at least according to EE/BT. Currently, BT/EE is the largest UK internet service provider (ISP). The game has reportedly “driven the biggest ever amount of traffic for a game launch” on their network. ISPreview first reported this data.
The spike in traffic started when pre-loading for the game started on Monday, October 21st. Since Black Ops 6 is the first Call of Duty game to launch on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, BT/EE have reported large increases in traffic on Xbox Live. A 144% increase in Xbox Live traffic has been reported compared to networking data from the prior week. This shouldn’t be a huge surprise, as Call of Duty games have huge download sizes and generate a lot of network traffic.
It remains to be seen if Microsoft considers the launch of Black Ops 6 a success. While the game has generated a ton of network traffic, it remains to be seen if it will have a long-term impact on the Xbox platform. Will Game Pass subscribers continue their subscriptions? Has the move to Game Pass reduced game sales and total revenues?
On PC, Black Ops 6 weighs in at 102GB. That is just for the game’s campaign and multiplayer component. Add on Call of Duty: Warzone, and you can add many more gigabytes of data to that download. Even now, the Call of Duty series remains one of the gaming industry’s top titles. Love it or hate it, Call of Duty remains one of the most popular games available.
