Blooper Team launches a native Steam Deck version of Cronos: The New Dawn
2025’s slowly becoming the year of Native Steam Deck gaming
Blooper Team has officially launched a new “Native version” of Cronos: The New Dawn for Steam Deck/Linux. While the game launched with Steam Deck verification, Blooper Team one-upped themselves by releasing a native build of the game for Steam Deck. This new build allows the game to run faster on Valve’s handheld.
This release comes shortly after Baldur’s Gate 3 received a native Steam Deck version. Developers are achieving greater performance from Valve’s PC gaming handheld by creating native Steam Deck/Linux versions of their games, providing gamers with a stronger gaming experience on Valve’s platform.
Thanks to Valve’s Steam Deck, more PC games are becoming available with native Linux versions. This should worry Microsoft, as they are trying to push further into the handheld PC space with devices like the ROG Xbox Ally.
At launch, Cronos arrived as our latest survival horror title with full Steam Deck verification—but that’s not all!
Today, we’ve released a native build of the game for Steam’s handheld console, which means even better performance on this platform.
Enjoy Cronos on Steam, wherever you are!
Steam’s latest hardware survey indicates that 2.68% of Steam users are using Linux as their OS. Last year, Linux users accounted for 1.92% of Steam users. Although still a small percentage of Steam’s user base, Linux adoption is growing. While most of these users are likely using Valve’s Steam Deck, this is a big enough trend for some developers to take notice. Larain and Blooper Team are backing SteamOS/Linux. Will more developers follow suit?
