Bungie shocks with crazy low PC system requirements for Marathon

Marathon’s coming to PC and consoles on March 5th

Marathon is the newest FPS game from Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny, and it’s coming to PC and consoles on March 5th. While the game’s trailers show impressive visuals, Marathon’s PC system requirements are low. In fact, the game’s minimum GPU requirement is a low-end 2016 GPU: Nvidia’s GTX 1050 Ti.

It looks like Marathon will run easily on modern gaming PCs. As a modern PVP shooter, this makes sense. Stable performance is critical for competitive games, and we expect Marathon to target 60 FPS framerates on all console platforms. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a 120 FPS mode on higher-end consoles.

Based on Marathon’s PC system requirements, we should expect this game to be well optimised. With the game’s recommended GPU being Nvidia’s RTX 2060 6GB, we can expect all modern gaming GPUs to run Marathon with ease. Note that Bungie has also confirmed that Marathon will use BattlEye anti-cheat, which is a kernek-level anti-cheat system.

Marathon PC system requirements

Below are Marathon’s PC system requirements. While they have no resolution or framerate targets, we’d expect a multiplayer PVP shooter to target 60 FPS framerates.

With these low system requirements, we expect Marathon to run well on modern PCs. This should also be true for Windows-powered gaming handhelds. Right now, we do not expect Marathon to be playable on Valve’s Steam Deck, as its kernel-level anti-cheat may not be compatible with Linux/SteamOS.
