Capcom’s reportedly working on a Resident Evil 4 remake

 With 2019 came a remake of Capcom’s Resident Evil 2, and in 2020 came a remake of Resident Evil 3, Now, surprising nobody, it looks like Capcom’s working to remake Resident Evil 4. 

Resident Evil 4 is Capcom’s highest-rated game of all time, arriving on Gamecube in 2005 with later releases on PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 have proved to be successful, making a remake of Resident Evil 4 a great move by Capcom. 

The Video Game Chronicle has reported that Capcom’s Studio M-Two will be pioneering Resident Evil 4’s development efforts, a studio which has reportedly been preparing for this project since 2018. 

This remake is being made with the blessing of the Resident Evil 4’s original director, Shinji Mikami, who declined the opportunity to lead the project himself. Instead, Mikami will be assisting the game’s development team in a more informal manner. 

Resident Evil 4’s remake will reportedly release in 2022, likely using a refined iteration of Capcom’s RE Engine, which has been used to great effect with Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5 and the remakes of Resident Evil 2/3. 

With Resident Evil 4 being an incredibly popular and influential title, it remains to be seen how Capcom’s planned remake will alter the original’s gameplay mechanics and storyline. Significant changes to the game may anger fans of the original, but too few changes could equally hurt the remake.
