Chome version 55 will use up to 50% less RAM

Google has announced that Chome version 55 will use up to 50% less RAM thanks to their new Javascript engine, which has been given a significant overhaul in order to reduce its memory footprint.

Chrome version 55 has a planned release date of December 6th, though this update will be available early for users who opt to use Pre-release code for the chrome web browser. In Google's test scenario, which used websites like the New York Times, Reddit and YouTube, the new version of the browser used 50% less RAM on average when compared to Chrome 53, which is great news for those of us who can use 20+ tabs at any given time.

This update will significantly improve the browsing experience of those who use older systems with lower amounts of memory resources, though all users should experience an performance or efficiency improvement with this update.

Sadly this update will not improve the memory consumption of sites which do not rely on javascript, though it is worth noting that most modern websites use Javascript in one form or another.

Only 20 tabs? Lightweight!

I have at least 6 windows with 30+ in each I even have tabs that have other tabs collapsed into them!

TABCEPTION!!!

FYI, anyone else in this situation, I recently found something called "The great suspender" which 'switches off' tabs if you leave em idle for <insert your chosen time here> it saves ram LOADSQuote

This might be something for me then ... But when you say "switches off" tabs, what do you mean then exactly? Quote
