Civilization VII is Steam Deck Verified – Firaxis confirms

Civilization VII Steam Deck Verified

Civilization VII will be playable on Valve’s Steam Deck on Day-1

Today, Firaxis has confirmed that Civilization VII is Steam Deck Verified, which means that the game will be fully playable on Valve’s PC gaming handheld on day 1.

Civilization VII will be released on February 11th for PC and consoles. On PC, it supports Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. Other supported platforms include Xbox One/Series consoles, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch. Cross-play will be available at launch for all platforms.

Given Valve’s use of newer, more powerful hardware in their Steam Deck, the handheld should deliver a much better visual experience in Civilization VII than Nintendo’s Switch console. The handheld is already popular amongst Civilization fans, being a popular device for playing Civilizations V and VI.

Today, Firaxis also confirmed Lafayette as a new leader for Civilization VII. Lafayette is a leader who focuses on diplomacy and culture. Unlike prior Civilization games, Leaders and Civilizations are no longer linked. With each of the game’s ages, players will see their Civilization transition from one to another, with their leader staying consistent throughout the game.

A lot will change with this new entry in the Civilization series, but at its core, it is still Civilization. With this entry, Firaxis wants the late game to be just as fun as the early game, requiring a huge change in how Civilization plays. Will this new entry be as popular as its predecessors? I guess we will have to wait and see.
