Firaxis are now working on their next Civilization game
Firaxis and 2K Games have confirmed that a new Civilization game is in development, and that former COO Heather Hazen has become the studio's new head. At this time, it is unknown if this new Civilization game is Civilization 7, or a new spin-off title like Civilization: Beyond Earth. That said, Civilization VI is now six years old, making it probable that Firaxis' new Civilization game is a sequel and not a spin-off.
Alongside their work on a new Civilization game, Firaxis is continuing to support Marvel's Midnight Suns with new content and will continue to release new content for Civilization VI in the form of new Leader Pass content.
Currently, it is unknown what Firaxis' plans are for a new Civilisation game, but we will certainly see new gameplay mechanics and reworks of existing mechanics. After all, we need to see major changes to make Firaxis' new game deserving of the Civilization 7 title, as anything less than a major rework would make a new Civilization game feel more like a DLC than a fully new game.
