Counter-Strike 2 reaches new concurrent player peak
Counter-Strike 2 has hit a new high, but it’s still behind CS:GO’s peak
Over the past week, Counter-Strike 2 has hit a new concurrent player record, with over 1.74 million people playing the game on Steam. This comes shortly after the start of CS2’s Season 2 premiere, which added a new version of the series’ iconic “train” map to the game’s competitive map pool.
Counter-Strike 2 has been hugely successful for Valve, though the game’s player count remains behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). In 2023, CS:GO reached a peak player count of almost 1.82 million. CS2 isn’t far behind its predecessor’s peak, but it’s still behind.
While the move from CS:GO to CS2 has not been liked by all players, the series remains as popular as ever. CS2 is the most-played game on Steam, far surpassing any other game on the platform.
Will CS2 eventually surpass CS:GO’s peak? Probably. The game isn’t far behind its predecessor. That means that the game could be pushed above its older version with the release of a new operation, new skins, or some other added content. It may only be a matter of time before CS2 surpasses its predecessor.
