CryEngine is set to deliver Vulkan support in version 5.4 


CryEngine is set to deliver Vulkan support in version 5.4, which is set to be released by the end of July, with DirectX 12 Multi-GPU support coming in version 5.5. 

Originally, Vulkan support was set to arrive in version 5.3 in November 2016, though since then development plans were changed in favour of supporting other features like the improvement of the engine's DirectX 12 implementation. 

Cryengine has also reaffirmed that commitment to full GitHub support for the game engine, which will allow developers to keep track of Crytek's progress with their engine. 

In recent months Crytek has sadly been unable to continue rapidly updating their game engine, which has caused several engine updates to be delayed. Previously Crytek was aiming for weekly updates to the engine.  

 


Following on from the renderer refactoring and DirectX 12 implementation, the team has been hard at work implementing a Vulkan renderer. The code can be seen in Code/RenderDll/XRenderD3D9/Vulkan/… although the feature is not functional, yet. We want to make these changes available to you for review whilst we are currently stabilising the engine for our 5.4 release. So you can track our progress on GitHub until 5.4 is finally here by the end of July.

Moving forward Crytek wants to add support for additional graphical APIs, like Metal for Mac support and to make the engine more parallelized to more easily achieve high framerates like 120 FPS in games. These two examples are only in their research and development phase and should not be expected in Cryengine anytime soon.

I would put there delays on meeting release dates to there bad recent history of financial issues..

Excited another top engine is supporting Vulkan. Only a good thing.Quote
