Crytek has updated Robinson: The Journey to support the HTC Vive

Crytek has announced that they have updated Robinson: The Journey to support the HTC Vive and Oculus' Touch controllers, finally bringing the VR title to users outside of the Oculus ecosystem and into the realms of VR motion control.

This update is available for the Steam Version of the game, with the Oculus Store version lacking support for the HTC Vive, both versions will support Oculus Touch. The Steam version of the game has also been updated to include achievements.

The addition of motion controller support will greatly add to the immersion of the game, immersing players further into this game's story to give them an enhanced gameplay experience.

In an adventure inspired by Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe and classic science fiction, you will become the first human to explore an extrasolar planet. When the Esmeralda crash-lands on Tyson III, a boy named Robin is left stranded.  He must rely on his wits – and HIGS, one of the ship’s AI units – to survive. As he searches for the lost crew and comes face-to-face with dinosaurs, Robin discovers that Tyson III is not the paradise he was promised.

Stunningly realistic graphics provide a true feeling of presence in the lush and mysterious environs of Tyson III thanks to the power of CRYENGINE, and expert sound design fills out the world of Robinson. Every creature has its own voice, and attenuation ensures that each sound changes depending on the location of the player, a detail that really brings the world to life. Robinson’s ambient soundscapes are embellished by a score composed by Jesper Kyd.

Hopefully, Robinson: The Journey will be the first of many Oculus Exclusive games that will be coming to other VR platforms, as the market segmentation in today's VR market is certainly harming VR adoption. Nobody wants to back the wrong VR platform after all.
