Digital Extremes’ Dark Sector is now available for free on Steam

Until November 30th, Digital Extremes’ 2009 3rd-person shooter Dark Sector will be available for free on PC through Steam. This game is the spiritual predecessor to Warframe, offering gamers similar fast-paced gameplay.

This free game promotion is Digital Extremes’ way of celebrating the upcoming release of Warframe’s “1999” expansion. This expansion is releasing next month and will be available for free to all Warframe players.

Dark Sector was released on consoles in 2008 and on PC in 2009. The game centres around Hayden Tenno, a CIA “clean-up man” who gets infected by the “Technocyte virus.” This virus gives him special abilities, including the ability to grow a three-pronged “Glaive” at will. The game has “Very Positive” reviews on Steam and is usually available for £6.99.

Even today, Dark Sector holds up surprisingly well on PC. Yes, the game’s visuals are dated, but the same can be said for any game of this era. If you are a fan of Warframe and want to play the game that inspired it, you should give it a try. If is also a good time if you are a fan of other 3rd person games of this era.

PC gamers can redeem a free copy of Dark Sector on Steam until November 30th.
