Dark Souls Remastered will support 4K 60FPS gameplay on PC

To put it charitably, the original PC port of Dark Souls was horrendous, lacking the ability to play the game outside of an anamorphic 1024x720 (Sub-720p) resolution, rebindable controls and a framerate of 30FPS. Thankfully these issues are addressed thanks to the use of Durante's DSFix mod, though even then the game is not without its problems.

Dark Souls: Remastered has been announced for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, giving Bandai Namco a chance to redeem themselves by releasing a palatable PC version of the title. All versions except the Nintendo Switch version will run at 60FPS, confirming that PC gamers will at a minimum be able to play the game at a lacked 60 without mods (please offer an unlocked framerate!).

Resolution-wise the game will support resolutions up to at least 4K, with the PS4, Xbox One and Switch (Docked) versions supporting 1080p gameplay while the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X will support an upscaled 4K resolution. The Nintendo Switch version will support 720p in handheld mode, which is the native resolution of the device's display. PC will be the only platform where native 4K gameplay will be possible at all times.

The remaster will release on May 25th on all platforms and will come with enhanced lighting, special effects and all of the original game's DLC. At this time it is unknown if existing PC/Steam owners of Dark Souls will be getting a discounted or free upgrade to the game's new version.
