Discord announce their Nitro subscription service

Discord, the free communications app, has now has launched a new premium subscription-based service alongside their existing free version, allowing their users to support the development of Discord while in no way harming the experience of existing free users.

This new subscription service is called Nitro, which gives users a few unique features as well as provide users with the knowledge that they have supported their favourite gaming chat app.

  • Animated Avatar — upload a GIF avatar that plays in your profile and when moused over in chat.
  • Use Custom Emoji Everywhere — get a global passport to use your custom emoji in any server or DM.
  • Boosted Upload Limit — share big images and files with a larger upload size of 50MB (from 8MB).
  • Rep Your Discord Support — display how long you’ve supported Discord with a special profile badge.

  • Dischord will continue to be a free app, offering users the ability to create a group chat for free using their browser and mobile versions as well as their dedicated desktop app.

Right now Discord is easily one of the best communications apps available, easily besting longtime favourites like TeamSpeak, Ventrilo and Skype. Most of Discord’s features will remain free moving forward, though now gamers have the opportunity to support the app’s development directly.
