Dolmen will be the first game to support Intel's XeSS upscaling technology

Dolmen's launching with Intel XeSS support on May 20th

- Update - The Developers of Dolmen have now confirmed that their game will not launch with XeSS support this week. The feature will be patched into the game "this summer".

It's official, Intel's XeSS game upscaling technology is due to release before the company's first desktop Xe based graphics cards. XeSS is Intel's answer to Nvidia's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) feature and AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 temporal upscaler, and its due to arrive later this week with the release of Dolmen on PC.

Dolmen's due to launch on PC with support for XeSS, DLSS, and FSR 1.0 at launch, with Massive Work Studio confirming that the have plans to implement AMD FSR 2.0 support in the near future. These details were confirmed by a recent interview with WCCFTECH

Will XeSS support be available at launch?

I think I can tell you that everything, including the partnership with Intel, will be released in the Day One patch.

Does Dolmen support any other upscaling technologies, such as AMD's FSR and NVIDIA's DLSS?

Yes. The technologies you mentioned are in and will be working with the game.

Okay, that's nice. Are you planning to upgrade AMD FSR to the 2.0 version?

Dolmen will ship with FSR 1.0, but we have the intention to upgrade to 2.0, yes.

It looks like Dolmen will be the first game to implement upscaling technologies from all major GPU manufacturers, allowing gamers to compare the image quality levels and performance of all three technologies. Sadly, Dolmen will not support AMD's FSR 2.0 technology at launch, leaving Dolmen with support for AMD's older, and less advanced, FSR 1.0 feature.

Like DLSS, Intel's XeSS technology utilises AI as part of its upscaling technique, utilising the XMX instructions that are available on Intel's Xe series GPUs and the DP4a instructions used by other hardware. As another alternative, XeSS is supported on Shader Model 6.4 GPUs, allowing XeSS to be supported by a broader range of hardware. However, GPUs without XMX or DP4A support are expected to receive smaller performance benefits from XeSS than newer graphics cards.
